This is the first time that I’ve been invited to ‘catch my own lunch’! The Ritz Carlton, JBR hosted a group of media to trial their new concept called ‘Catch & Grill’. The concept involves catching your own fish (hopefully), eating the fish later (of course cleaned, prepared and cooked by the team) and enjoying some time at the pool/beach in between. We started our day by boarding a yacht and heading out into the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf – anchoring at a few different spots not too far away from the Dubai shoreline. We did manage to catch successfully a barracuda, a squid (a total showstopper complete with plenty of ink which sprayed everywhere) and a few Sultan Ibrahims. We spent four hours in the morning fishing and learning from the friendly boat crew on how to line fish etc along with some breakfast and juices. Fish is caught sustainably and any fish that’s not of the right size or in breeding season is returned promptly to the sea, and that’s what happened to my really big catch, which eventually was nicknamed – the ‘one that got away’! After fishing, we headed back to the resort for some relaxing pool time, before heading over to Palm Grill for lunch. This is a beachfront seafood restaurant with a laid-back and “no-shoes” dining experience. The team had transformed all our catch into a tasty BBQ lunch which was served as part of a three course menu. Definitely a fun and a different way for a daycation!
[The Catch & Grill package costs AED 2,700 for two people, and AED 350 for each additional guest up to eight people and is available for both residents and outside guests.]
