A few weeks ago we headed out for a Taiwanese Lunch at Taipei Dao Teahouse & Restaurant. Taipei Dao is owned by Felice, who I had previously met at Sino Chai a few years ago.
Taipei Dao prides itself on serving healthy, tasty, fresh organic Taiwanese cuisine and this is exactly what we had for our lunch. We started with Spring Onion Pancake, one of my favourites from the Sino Chai days, along with Jasmine tea Chicken Shu Mai. Both are tasty and light and are part of the free flowing Dimsum menu which operates on a weekend if Dimsum is your thing.
Mains kicked off with spicy Konbao Chicken (chicken, dried chillies, peanuts garlic & spring onion), and Minced Beef with chopped long bean in black soy bean with a side of Steamed Germinated Brown Rice one of the house specials packed full of nutrition and health benefits.
Dessert was taken from the Bakery which sits inside the shop and we chose Red Bean Cake which was served alongside a traditional Taiwainese tea ceremony which Felice hosted for us.
A special shout out for all things pomelo related – they do a gorgeous refreshing Pomela iced tea (Pomelo Osmanthus Jin-Xuan Ice) as well as a stunning Pomelo ice-cream.
Finally we took home a few rich yet light muffins from the bakery to enjoy at home.
Despite having ordered plenty of dishes, we left feeling content and light. The food is tasty, light and relatively healthy, with many of the ingredients being imported from Taiwan. Organic & natural play a big part in the menu design and there are plenty of healthy dishes to choose from. The bakery is worthy of a return trip just to indulge in some of the baked treats available, many of which were gluten free and a few suitable for vegans too. I should also mention there is an extensive tea selection so you can just pop in for tea and a cake too!
An incredible Taiwanese restaurant, teahouse and bakery located right in the heart of Downtown Dubai. Taipei Dao is highly recommended for those seeking out flavourful food, which is organic, healthy and a perfect introduction to authentic Taiwanese Food.
