A passion for GREAT tacos inspired us to launch Maiz Tacos.
After numerous travels abroad and exploring different parts of the world together, a foodie couple started exploring the delicious world of authentic Mexican cooking. We started to notice how our highly favored cuisine was missing in Dubai and decided to launch a food truck to do just that : focus on high quality Mexican tacos with a menu that doesn’t tug at your wallet.
We promise to bring you authentic tacos that will make Mexico proud! Showcasing only the freshest ingredients to create the most authentic recipes – in the traditional Mexican cooking methods.
What or who is the inspiration behind your start-up?
As a couple we cook together, travel for food together, stay up late binging on cooking shows & documentaries together. So when we finally decided to take a step into the F&B world we did all of the above and really asked ourselves what do we miss in Dubai? Insanely GREAT tacos!
Tell us why your business is the “best thing since sliced bread
We really wanted to stay true to what we admire in a great spot, and that is FRESH, Quality flavours. So we pushed the limit to try to present the same. We are literally a 100% fresh concept. Nothing haspreservatives, has been frozen, or re-used multiple times a week. Our tortillas only have a 3 day shelf life, and are made using 3 ingredients. It is definitely possible to present such a concept in Dubai, and we want to prove that.
Who is your hero in the restaurant business – the one that you aspire to be?
There are too many to choose! Gordan Ramsay is a contender because of his success rate and his ethical standards. If it’s not perfect he doesn’t want to serve it, and that is what we want to try to achieve. Might sound crazy, but I think if we reach for that goal we will be closer to it than we think.
What is your favourite dish on the menu and why?
Our El Dorado, the fish taco. It is the reason 50% of our customers come back as well. When you find a good fish taco, you are one happy amigo. Its marinated, battered, then double fried. Crispy & Delicious!
What (lessons) have you learnt along the way that you would like to share with other foodpreneurs?
We have learned more than we can imagine in the last 3 months! One thing that has really stuck with us, is that you have to be willing to be there 24/7, especially the first year or even longer. It’s your vision, your recipes, your dream. You should be the one selling it and letting your passion flow out. Speaking to every customer has been such a rewarding exercise for us, especially listening to their feedback and praise for the food. It motivates you to keep on truckin’
